Flying

Alyssa had a bad time flying? Yes. EasyJet and Berlin Schefoeld, you did the impossible. It was probably the worst travelling experience I've ever had in my entire life, and that includes the 9 hour bus ride I had where I was altitude and motion sick. It might have had something to do with the fact that I was very travel weary, but I am going to blame it on both the Airport and the Airline, you need to work on your customer experience.

The first red flag was that you have to walk about 500/700 m after you get off the tram to the entrance to the airport, which is tiring in itself. But I'm a strong gal, so that didn't bug me. Now once I entered the airport, you get the normal stuff that bug normal people, line-ups, crowds, wayfinding etc. I won't go into details, but it was particularly bad, so it even bugged me!

Then when I did manage to check-in, I was told that I needed to bring my bag to a different area because it was a backpack and had straps and things. *sigh*

Once through security, about an hour before boarding, the gate wasn't posted yet. Only two flights had their gates up, and they were already boarding. So I didn't hold my breath for it to be listed soon. There was a ridiculous lack of seating, All the gates were enclosed, and since there were no flights leaving from them (remember only two gates were being used) no one could go into them. So many empty chairs to waste.... but I was lucky enough to snag a seat across from the departure board.

....About 1 hr later....

The gate number is posted. Which really really far from where I was sitting. But alas, knowing that boarding was, well supposed to be right then, everyone made a B line for the gate. Then we got our boarding passes checked for boarding. And guess what we get to do then? We get to sit at the gate for another 20 minutes or so. But the BEST part is that, there once again isn't enough seating. I wish you could of stood there outside the gate and been like, don't go through!! You are better on that side. But nope, the gate filled up like we were cattle. The best part I think, was the really tacky "Speedy Pass" or something. Basically they got their own little enclosure partitioned off in the gate with orange queue ribbon, to make sure they were able to board first. But my favourite was the guy in the neon yellow security jacket that kicked people out of the section that weren't "speedy-pass" oh and the old lady that kept on tattling on people.

Another great thing about EasyJet. You don't get a seat number. Who the heck has ever heard of an airline that doesn't give you an friggen seat number. Umm ones that want some crazy mad rush of people practically running across the tarmac trying to get a good seat. I wouldn't be reduced to such acts of open.. un-classiness. So I waited out the crazies and got a seat over the wing, big deal.

Flying is supposed to be, or used to be, super classy. Some airlines get that, with the nice lounges and free beverages. Maybe if I wanted to be classy I shouldn't of used a discount airline I guess. Or I could have my own private jet, that's pretty classy. Well I'll buy a private Jet before using "EasyJet" again. Or I'll stick to trains, those are classy too.

  1. I did not think you would ever have a flight you didn't like, you love to fly. Thankfully, your only flight left is KLM home. Happy train travel for the rest of the trip!!
